Petite Tailoring: Banana Republic Martin Wool Pants in 00P

It’s a rarity that I wear pants but I bought 2 pairs of wool Banana Republic pants last Winter and they have been sitting in my closet waiting to be tailored. I finally got myself to get them tailored and  am NOT loving the fit. It makes me look really big and wide…..so I am confirming that there is NO HOPE for me and pants!

Top: Forever 21 Taupe Blouse- size XS (similar HERE)
Pants: Banana Republic Wool Martin- size 00P (similar HERE)
Shoes: AldoPatent Pumps- size 35 (similar HERE)
I was almost not going to even write a post on this because I was so frustrated but hopefully by sharing my experiences, it will help another petite:)
Click below for before pics and why I hate pants!

Here are the before pics I took before tailoring:

How on earth can Banana Republic get away with calling these 00P pants?
So clearly the after tailoring still appears too big! What is up with that? *sigh* I will have to take it back to my tailor and have him take the hem up and fix whatever else is going on! And this is AFTER him taking in my waist, hips and the hem of these pants. And it was NOT cheap!!! I got these pants on sale last Winter and they have been sitting in my closet so I figured why not get them tailored and maybe just maybe they will turn out and I can actually wear them?
Pictures do not lie and it’s confirmed, I cannot wear pants! I am so regretting buying these and spending the money to attempt to tailor them. What  huge loss on my part. I am going to take these back to my tailor and hope he can salvage them and make them wearable. At this point, I am giving up on all hope for any pants. I have tried everything! I will have to stick to skirts and dresses. 🙁

Just got back from vacation in Bora Bora!!!

  1. I love this outfit! It's perfect for the FALL and the colors too! I agree, the pants are still too big on you, but the color combo looks amazing!

  2. By the way, you have amazing legs! It's a sign that those legs were meant to be shown YEAR round! I hope this comment cheers you up! Don't give up on your search for pants, but in the meanwhile we love your skirts and dresses!!! 🙂

  3. Hmm… I think it might be the style of the pants. They look pretty good around the waist, but a bit big around the thighs (the back view looks the most noticeable). It also does look a tad long, but hemming should be the easiest alteration =) It's ok if you're not a pants person, that's more reason to buy more dresses!

  4. have you tried skinnier fit pants? you have amazing legs though that look so great in skirts. screw pants hahaha!

  5. I think it's the style and fit of the pants, I think they were meant for someone much bigger than you. Ditto'ing Angie, I think you should look into pants that are "skinnier" in fit since you have terrific legs.

  6. I have that problem with altered pants. Did he only take them in from the back? You probably needed them taken in down the sides and some in the back. I have about 10 pairs of Express pants that I had taken in only at the waist and back and they have the same look as your Banana ones. I never wear them because I hate how they look! If only the waist and down the back are taken in it still leaves all the fullness in the legs which leads to the widening effect that you are seeing.

  7. Also, as a result I never buy pants that need more than minor alterations. There are just too many things that can go wrong!

  8. The original pants may have been too big for you to begin with. I would also recommend a skinnier fit of pants. Have you ever tried skinny crops? The J. Crew minnie or the ones from AT may fit you. Also, I would personally recommend LOFT's scuba pants. There are two versions that I know of: Petite Scuba Lean Trousers (love these and find them to be loose enough to still be actual pants but fitted enough not to look like clown pants) and Petite Scuba Seamed Pants which look really tight on the model but would probably look better fitted on you.

  9. I think you would look great with slim fitted type pants. With the right lenght and fitting, you will look fantastic in them. Have you tried Express pants on 00S? You may have to get the lenght altered but they come in so many different styles.

  10. Awww, I kinda like the wide legged pants look! I think it would look great with a top that is tucked/untucked. Sorry to hear that you don't like the outcome of the alterations though!

  11. Lovely colour combo. Have you tried a slimmer fit? Looks like there's too much fabric around the hips and thighs – oh my, on the back too. It's weird how it is so much higher on the back. It's a shame to cover up your flat stomach but maybe a slightly higher waist would be better.

  12. I think you should stick to the tried & true and wear skirts! I find it's too much trouble to force something that doesn't work as easily. If I had legs like yours I would live in skirts!

  13. Oh no…the pants still fit awful! I believe the cut of the pants pre-tailoring was too far from what suits you to begin with.

I'm one size bigger than you so I've had luck with The Limited 0 Short & Express 00S. I agree with others that skirts are definitely your style.

The color of the pants is beautiful though. I hope I can track down a similar color for fall!

  14. Ooh, yeah those pants are definitely too big on you even after alterations. Will your tailor fix it for free since it doesn't fit as planned? I also think that the higher cut of the pants makes it look a little like it's for more of a mommy crowd item (not necessarily a bad thing, but just doesn't seem "you").

  15. Oh, I feel your pain. I kind of arrived at the same conclusion recently. I can't wear pants. They don't flatter me. I think jeans, skirts would be much better options.

  16. I don't know if it's you. I think they are cutting pants differently/bigger these days. I'm very thin but my legs are long. It used to be that pants were no problem for me as long as I found a long enough inseam, but now everything is too big on me. Very frustrating.

The pants are too big on you, I agree, but otherwise I like the outfit. I think if you found someone to make the pants for you instead of doing alterations, you might be happy with the outcome.

  17. Just like everyone said, I do not like the look of these pants on you. You look way cuter and sexier in skirt. I am lucky that Martin 00P fits me OK (not great but at least I don't need to get them alter). I am wearing them in this post. I bought 2 pairs last year and still wearing them every week

  18. yes, the pants do look big on you. it does not accentuate your great figure. and to think all that money you spent on alterations. finding the perfect pants is like finding the perfect jeans. you know, you can always put it on your blog sale 🙂

  19. if i had your legs, i would never want to wear pants! lol. i do think banana republic pants are ill-fitting though. have you tried theory? express has some cute skinny pants on super duper sale right now. you would need to get them hemmed though.
