J.Crew Lady Day Coat vs. Colletta in Cobblestone- 0P

Well, the day is finally here! All my coats arrived this week and now I am more confused than ever!! Thanks to my great blogger friend- Vicky at Vicky’s Daily Fashion, she was able to get me the Coletta in cobblestone in a 0P! She worked very hard and woke up extra early for me- what a woman she is!!! I need help deciding between the two:

1. Petite Double Cloth Colletta Coat in cobblestone (non-thinsulate)- size 0P (buy here)

2. Petite Double Cloth Lady Day Coat (thinsulate) – size 0P (buy here)

I won’t bore you with a review since Vicky already did a great job but I will tell you my likes and dislikes.
Let’s start with the Colletta coat:

  • I do love the feminine details of the coat- especially the cuff on the sleeves and the cinching details of the back (so cute).
  •  The color- Cobblestone- clearly was the right choice for me and I am so glad I didn’t settle. I have been eyeing the Cobblestone since day one!
  •  The length is just about 1″ shorter than where I normally wear my skirts/dresses which I like.

Here is a sideview of both coats:
IMG_3029IMG_3115
  • I look sort of preggy from the sideview which is NOT good.
  • The collar sticks straight up and touches my face (which I cannot stand). I have a thing about things touching my face- that’s why I don’t have bangs and always pull my hair away from my face in photos. So I know this is going to bother me.

I went through A LOT to get this Lady Day Coat in cobblestone. It was the day after Vicky had gotten my Coletta coat but I was just determined to get the Lady Day coat in 0P to compare. I was literally checking every single morning, afternoon and night. Refreshing my page- oh the things we do for fashion!  On the last day of the sale, I laid there restless and knew that J.Crew updated their inventory every morning around 6:00 EST which is 3:00 am PST, so luckily, I had my nifty iPad next to my night stand and was able to check it out and low and behold, my 0P in cobblestone popped up and I snagged it immediately. Even though it had thinsulate, I didn’t care. So both coats were very hard to find and am glad I got both to compare otherwise I would forever be wondering:)
  • I love the sleekness of the design.  It’s simple and elegant and great for my business.
  • I love the collar because it’s sits away from my face and lays flat. The sleeves fit perfectly which is amazing!!!!
IMG_3150
  • The thinsulate is great for someone in colder weather but for CA- it might be too much. It’s definitely heavier than the non-thinsulate when you carry it but once you put it on, you hardly notice the weight.
  • The length is a bit longer than the Coletta which I am not sure if I like or not (?).

I also got the Colletta coat in Hunter Green by accident thinking Vicky got me the Coletta with thinsulate so I saw a 0P non thinsulate and wanted to compare it with. Once I re-read her email, I realized she scooped up the non-thinsulate for me! I got a bit too excited..hehehe Please email me if you are interested otherwise I will be returning it:)
I am completely torn. I don’t have ANY nice coats so I will be def keeping one for sure. Ideally, I would love the Lady Day Coat in non-thinsulate but that’s not going to happen so I am more than happy with these choices.

HELP me decide: Coletta (non-thinsulate) or Lady Day (thinsulate)?
220*850240*850

I honestly don’t care about the thinsulate, doesn’t really bother me. I am going for what looks the best:) I think both look and fit great, I am sooooooooo TORN!!! I think if the Colletta’s collar was different, it would be a no brainer for me. I almost wish I could switch collars!

  1. I like the 1st! ~

I feel like the collar on the 1st coat is SO cute and the collar on the 2nd is so meeeeh (I personally hate those kind of collars and find them so unattractive the way they cut off the neck and look old), and the cinching on back of 1st is cute! And the shorter length looks more youthful, which to me is a good thing ( totally personal pref as others might prefer a more mature coat). Where the 2nd coat wins is on the details and side view… but just based off the 1st 2 pics in this post I vote #1!

whoops sorry for looooong comment >__<

  2. haha! I just reread and saw that you prefer the collar of the 2nd coat! In that case, based on your preferences and the other factors I think you should go w/#2 🙂

  3. I'm 100% for the Lady Day – the side view did it for me, plus the fact that you don't like things near your face. If it's a little warmer than you need, that's okay… I think that it's better to be overprepared than underprepared 🙂 Hey, it COULD snow in CA someday, right? LOL

  4. My vote is for the Lady Day coat. It's classic and I actually like the fact that it would cover up your skirt as opposed to the Colletta. Plus, the empire waist of the Colletta seems to overwhelm you on the side view. Huge con in my opinion.

  5. Keep the Lady Day! I think the style suits your taste better. It's a classic look that won't get outdated. The side view comparison pics sealed the deal. Colletta just doesn't look as good. I like how the Lady Day flares out at the bottom. Gorgeous colors and coats, so glad you and Vicky were able to hunt them down!

  6. I LOVE Lady Day (haha you already know I am trying to hunt down the pink) but for you I think Colletta is the winner! I can't put my finger on it but it just fits you more I think?

  7. Another vote for the Colletta- the back view is much nicer and the length is perfect for dresses and skirts

  8. I vote for the Lady Day as I love the nice sleek look of it. I think ultimately the collar on the Colletta will be a dealbreaker as it will be bugging you everytime you wear it. And the Cobblestone color definitely is a winner — very flattering for your skin tone!

Hope this helps, although it looks like you've got some mixed reviews here. 🙂

    cute and little

  9. I like the Lady Day better too. I also do not like the stand up collar and the gathered waist. The Lady Day looks much sleeker because it doesn't have a gathered waist. Love that cobblestone color!

  10. Based upon what you said in your "dislikes" part of the post, it seems like you almost alrady made your decision! Lady Day for you I think it is!

  11. Hhhhmmmm……..tough call. They all look so good on you! (I wasn't any help at all was I? 😉 On the bright side, you already know that whichever you choose is going to look fab!!

  12. I'm all for the Lady Day Coat. I think it looks awesome and a big plus that it doesn't make you look pregnant from a side view, I know that would bother me to no end! Also, the collar of the Lady Day looks very flattering 🙂

  13. Colletta for sure. More feminine and I actually LOVE the collar. You might be fidgetting with the collar in your face, but looks-wise, I love Colletta on you 😀 Lucky you, they're both beautiful coats.

  14. I'm shocked there are so many for Lady Day because from the first picture to the last I was 100% for the Coletta. It's more feminine and flattering on your body, plus the length is more suited for you. Not to mention, the non-thinsulate makes it better for your climate needs. 🙂

  15. This is tough! From the front, I prefer the Coletta but that side view – no one wants to look pregnant if they're not! I think I would go for the Lady Day for the sleeker, classic look.

  16. Tough one! It depends on what kind of coat you're looking for. The Lady Day is a classic and serious look while the Colletta is cute and spunky. The Colletta also fits you better all around EXCEPT from the side view. Personally, I think both coats look a teeny tiny tad big on you and hide your (most excellent) figure too much. You could probably go more fitted in CA since you won't really need the extra room for layering thick sweaters underneath. But if you must keep one, I vote for the Lady Day coat because it's classic and judging from your post, it's really the one you want to keep!

  17. I'd go for the Lady Day. I'm not sure if I like the skirt-peeking out look. According to The Lucky Shopping Manual: "It's fine for a skirt or dress to peek out of your coat, as long as the overall look is loose–say, a casual flowy skirt with flat boots. But a neat A-line or pencil skirt worn with a tailored coat should be fully covered, a la Jackie O."

But then again, rules in fashion are made to be broken, so you can pick whatever makes you feel like a million bucks. 🙂

  18. I think the Colletta in the olive tone looks best on your and flatters your complexion. The pleated details of the coat add some femininity and girliness that's very much your personality. The Lady day coat is great, but I think it doesn't suit your personality or aesthetic as much since it's so much simpler and more mature looking. =)

  19. You know, it's funny, I haven't liked the Colletta coat on anyone except the catalog model so far. But when I saw the two coats side by side on you, my gut reaction was "Oh, the Colletta, by FAR." It looks more feminine and interesting, and the little shirring details actually work really well on you. On most of the rest of us it's been somewhat oddly placed and has stuck out. It's a bummer that you don't like the Colletta collar touching your face, because I personally think the Lady Day collar is closed-off and somewhat dowdy. (But I too have Issues with Hair Touching My Face, so I totally get it.)

Overall my vote is for the Colletta, just aesthetically! And the fact that it's the right level of thinsulate (none) is a bonus.

  20. Definitely the Coletta. The Lady Day looks huge on you & does nothing for your amazing figure. Also from the side view the Lady Day makes you look a little preggers as well. I have to agree with Stylepint the Coletta in dark cypress suits your skintone more so than cobblestone. Good luck with your decision:)

  21. I LOVE the grey Lady Day coat on you. You don't need the gathers on the waist area of the other coat. If there's a choice, I'll always choose the more tailored option.

  22. I like the one you have categorized as 2. The accents by the wrists look amazing. The cut is super feminine and the coat does not look like it's overpowering you (like touching your face) like the first one does. I do like the back profile of coat 1. It's a bit more fitted, but slightly shorter than 2. Overall, coat 2 is most elegant (in my opinion).

  23. Oh gosh! I feel like I will be of no help! Like you said, I wish they were both morphed into one!

The collar of the colletta is a big drawback for you. But…I do not like the length of the lady day compared to the colletta. I love the feminine look of the colletta more. The side view of the lady day is better. Ahh!! I almost want to say all are a no for you. But…if I HAD to choose…ahhh…lady day…question mark! I am so unsure! :p

  24. The side view says it all…I say Lady Day…but is the thickness practical? In the end…I try to buy things that I LOVE…if you don't LOVE either one , then don't keep either one! Another coat will come up somewhere I'm sure!

  25. Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions! I finally decided on the Lady Day Coat (non-thinsulate)! I was able to scoop it up the other day when J.Crew had their sale again:)
