Part 2: 5 Wardrobe Staples You Must Have

Back in October of 2010, I did a post- see here- about 5 petite staples that I think every woman, petite or not, must have in their wardrobe. I wanted to do a part 2 to this because there are 5 more items I want to add to this list!
1. A nude pair of pumps
Screen shot 2011-01-30 at 11.18.12 AM
In my first post, I mentioned that you must have a nice pair of classic black pumps which is still the case but black doesn't always go with everything. And a pair of nude pumps really can make a difference. My favorite pair is Ann Taylor Perfect Patent Pump. You can get away with a nude peep-toe for Spring and Summer which is what I like to do. I like the lizard peep-toe in pumice stone, perfect exotic pump, or Christian Louboutin Simple 100 in bone.
TAUPECHANEL3
A 3-3 1/4" heel is ideal. The highest I would go for a business environment is 3.5" max. Any higher is borderline inappropriate for the work place. And the style of heel is important as well. You want to stick to classic heel, no stilettos!
2. Simple black pencil skirt
Part 1, I talked about a nice, tailored skirt suit and if it happens to be a black skirt suit, then you can re-use it for this category. No mini skirts, no A-line, or anything past the knee, just a simple, well tailored black pencil skirt. This is great for the work place and extremely versatile. You can almost pair it with everything and anything. Some of my favorites include Theory "Joanie"skirt (avail in 00), Petite Ponte pencil skirt (avail in 00) and this Darla Pencil Skirt.
3. A taupe/nude/beige colored purse/handbag
TAUPECHANEL1
I have 2 black Chanels (one Grand Shopper Tote and a medium double flap) and one Louis Vuitton Alma handbag so it's nice to change back and forth depending on my outfit. Ideally, I would like a taupe colored medium lambskin flap Chanel purse with silver hardware (one of my goals this year).  This purse doesn't have to be high end or LV or even Chanel but something that is a classic, preferably a beige/tan leather handbag or purse. Not every one of your outfits will match with black and one thing I cannot stand is the wrong purse w/a great outfit. Here are my suggestions: Louis Vuitton classic Alma handbag, Beige Chanel medium flap purse, or this quilted purse (Chanel-like for a fraction of the price)
4. A belt that fits (skinny is preferred)
Before getting my Ann Taylor perfect skinny belt in XS, I could never find a nice, well made skinny belt that fit my waist (23"). It was nearly impossible. A belt can add so much life to an outfit and totally transform it! A must have! Here are my suggestions: Perfect Patent skinny belt in XS, Harness buckle belt in XXS, or H & M belts in XS.
5. Flower Pin (or) Brooch
Screen shot 2011-01-30 at 11.32.30 AM
Everyone knows I am obsessed with my LOFT flower felt pins, pins/brooches in general. I think it's such a feminine and classy way to add some pizazz to your outfit. You can take a simple outfit, put on a nice  pin/brooch and make it look totally chic. I couldn't find any online that I like as much as I like my LOFT flower felt pins but these corsage brooch pins are super cheap and come in 3 colors. H & M has really affordable and cute pins as well. Or check ebay for vintage brooches:)

I hope you found this helpful! Do you have any other petite staples that you can add to this list? I would love to hear!

H & M Recent Finds: To Keep or Not?

I was able to check out this H & M that I have never been to because I had a near by appointment for work so what better excuse to pop in! I didn't have very much time so I just grabbed these items on a whim. So please help me decide to keep or if I should return?
157x430IMG_2797

1. Mustard Sweater dress, $19.95 on sale for $10- size 2
I am torn about this one but not sure when I will really wear it. But for $10, is it worth it or will it end up in my donations pile? This dress has been purchased!
2. Ruffle Wrap Dress, $34.95- size 2
260x730 IMG_2809
I thought this was super cute in-store and the fit is really nice but it's just too much for me. I think this is a return.
3. Scarf, $12.95 on sale for $5
IMG_2824
I am indifferent about this. It's obviously not of high quality but there is something unique about the print that makes me want to keep it...yay or no?
4. Flower Pins, $4.95 each
IMG_2818
Do I really need more flower pins? And since these are printed, they will be harder to match with. I got so excited at the store and just grabbed them...I wish I had more time in stores to really think about my purchases. It sure would save me a lot of time having to go and do returns frequently!IMG_2826
On a separate shopping trip (yesterday), I picked up this Forever 21 Turquoise Antique Fillagree Ring in a size 6 (similar to my Coral and Ivory ring)
Empress Sparkle Turqouise Ring- $4.85 (avail in 3 different colors)
**a size 6 fits my middle finger perfectly so the fit is more like a small size 5 ring**

I didn't see this in-store but these earrings that I have in olive green are now available in turqoise and they are so pretty!!! I am into turquoise and coral these days. I think I am getting ready for Spring and Summer! I haven't ordered these yet but wanted to show you.
I also picked up this skirt at Floral Twisted Skirt from Loft in a XXSP for only $4,  PetiteLG tweeted a pic of it. Not sure if it fits yet because I haven't tried it on. And I got this ruffle top in XXSP that Vicky from Vicky's Fashion has. I got both items for only $1.88 with my $20 Loft bucks! How crazy is that?

Which items should I keep from H & M? Lesson learned- make sure you have time to thoroughly think about your purchases instead of just grabbing whatever you see...I may return everything:( Have a great weekend everyone!

Lookbook: Layering a Cardigan Under a Blazer

Have you looked in your closets and just disliked almost everything you see? That's kind of what I have been feeling lately. I am trying to donate and get rid of as much as possible because I am coming to the realization that the majority of my clothes, I either don't like, don't fit or just poor quality. Blogging really makes me stop to think about what I am going to wear verses just throwing something on like I used to! Here is a casual but yet dressy enough for dinner look:
IMG_2733
Sweater: J.Crew Merino Cielo Cardi in Blossom Pink- size XXS (buy here)
Blazer: Theory "Edyna" Blazer- size 00 (similar here)
Denim: Gap Legging Jeans- size 00P (buy here)
Shoes: Cole Haan Sued Pumps- size 5 (buy here)
Belt: Ann Taylor Granite Skinny Patent Belt- size XS (buy here)
Pin: LOFT Flower Felt Gray Pin (ebay)
Purse: Chanel (2010) Medium Classic Double Flap

I used to never wear belts because I never had any that fit my waist! Luckily, I have several now from H & M and Ann Taylor that fit really nicely in XS.
IMG_2702
The sleeves are too long and I never bothered tailoring them so I just cuff them and left a little pink sleeve showing- I thought it was cute.
IMG_2752
Here is a close-up of all my layers and accessories. I even have purple nails! Just got for .77 from the CVS haul- not bad and totally outside my box! Are my pictures getting better? I don't know how to edit yet but am going to learn soon:)IMG_2701
I always like to include the back shot of an outfit because I think sometimes we can be fooled at just looking from the front. The back is just as equally important to me as how the outfit looks from the front:)
IMG_2764
I think accessories are key to a great outfit. A classic Chanel purse (2010 Classic Medium Double Flap with gold hardware), a flower pin, and some pearls goes a long way! I really want another Chanel this year, maybe a lighter colored one...
IMG_2696
This isn't the best fitting Theory blazer I have but I got it at the Theory outlet last April for a pretty decent price. And I like the length and pattern- it's the only blazer that looks like this so I can't complain. And the layered cardi underneath the blazer look- inspired by none other than Kelly from AlterationsNeeded:) I pre-wrote this days ago and chuckled when Kelly posted her PFC outfit.
204*662IMG_2687
You can easily re-create this look with this ruffle cardigan, add this cute blazer 00 Blazer, throw on your fav pair of skinny jeans, some nice grey pumps, add a belt and some accessories (flower pin, Chanel purse) and you are good to go!
What do you think about this outfit? Love it? Hate it?

Petite Fashion Challenge #5

This is my first Petite Fashion Challenge and I am really excited! I missed the other 4 due to work schedule or I just couldn't figure out what to put together. This challenge is being hosted by Cynthia from Shorty Stories.
The Challenge:
Create a sophisticated work appropriate look that has no more than one dark piece (it can be a skirt, pants, a blazer, sweater etc...) excluding shoes, accessories and hosiery.
IMG_2319
This was hard for me because I have a lot of work appropriate clothes but not in bright colors. I love neutral colors, earth tones, greys and of course pink!  So here is what I came up with.  One of my all time favorite dresses is this coral Cache dress:
IMG_2284
Dress: Cache Coral Dress- size P (petite) (similar here)
Sweater: J.Crew Merino Cielo Cardi- size XXS (buy here)
Shoes: Cole Haan Suede Pumps in grey- size 5 (buy here)
Necklace: LOFT (outlet) Pearl and Ribbon (similar here)
Ring: Forever 21 Antique Filagree in coral- size 6 (buy here)
IMG_2300
My only dark piece is my J.Crew cardigan. How did I do? This is a very typical work outfit for me, dress with cardigan and belt...I know I am boring but it's what I like:) In case you are curious, the Cache dress is super duper old. It literally sat in my closet for years w/out me ever wearing it until I started blogging and found it. I couldn't believe how well it fit and how petite friendly it was. I haven't been back to Cache in years. I have another formal dress from there which is super pretty and also very petite friendly.

I am excited to see everyone else's outfits who participated! Check out other petite's looks:

Tory Burch Reva "Coconut" Stingray Leather Flats- Take 2

So last April, I bought my first pair of Tory Burch Reva flats- see my post/review here. It's amazing how terrible my reviews were when I first started blogging..hehehe I ended up returning them because I just couldn't justify me keeping and wearing flats that were so expensive. I've always regretted not keeping them. Luckily I found them on sale in a size 5 online and with the help of my lovely Twitter friends, I pulled the trigger and ordered them! And they are a tiny bit cheaper this time around with no tax and free shipping!
IMG_2557
Top: J.Crew Ruffle Tank- size XXS (buy here) *only $7.50
Sweater: LOFT Front Pocket Cardi- size XXSP (buy here) *50% off
Belt: H & M Pleather belt from other skirt
Skirt: J.Crew Wool Bell Skirt in henna- size 00 (buy here)
Shoes: Tory Burch Reva Stingray Flats- size 5 (buy here)
IMG_2535
I wanted to show you what the Tory Burch Reva flats look like with a dress. I am wearing Forever 21's slinky knit dress in olive and in size small- only $14.50. I added the LOFT pin for some dimension.
IMG_2543
Here is a sideview of them with my GAP legging jeans (in 00p) to show you how it looks with jeans.
IMG_2602
I was a bit nervous ordering from Jildor- never bought anything from them so not sure if they were reputable or not. But when I got them, they were in perfect and brand new condition. *Whew*

IMG_2600
Here is a close-up of the color "coconut" stingray leather. I just love it! It's neutral so I can wear pretty much anything and everything with it.
IMG_2584
I won't do a review since that would be redundant but wanted to show you what they look like. It's so weird for me to be in flats, I still need to get used to them. I haven't worn them shopping for a full day yet but hope they will be comfortable.
IMG_2587
Can anyone tell me if how comfy they are and if they hurt your feet at all? Will the back of the heel stretch out? I am really worried about that...

Sale Alert: 00 Theory Boucle Full Suit

OMG! I was shopping late last night on my iPad and found this Theory complete suite in a 00 on sale! I have been actually eying this since it first came out but never pulled the trigger. And being that I just spurlged on 2 Gratian suits in black and ivory, I am going to refrain from trying this but wanted to share with you fellow petite ladies!
This is ON major sale from $245 down to $120. We all know how hard it is to find a 00 complete skirt set from Theory!

And the matching boucle Dialogue jacket is available in a 00 and on sale from $465 to only $130! I am not sure of the fit but know the 00's usually fit really well and the skirt looks like it's tiny and shorter than the Gratti pencil skirt which needs the hem to be taken up.

So the entire suit is $250 which is NOT bad at all from the original retail price of $710!!!

Plus you get cash back from ebates so click on my referral link before purchasing. Plus if you sign up for Bloomingdales for the first time, you get 10% off your purchase but it takes a few days to get the code.

Getting Personal: A Petite Girl's Dream Wedding

You know when someone says, "My wedding was the best day of my life?" and you wonder how that feels? Well I never really believed that it could be possible until I got married. My wedding day was seriously PERFECT. Flawless. I know- sounds cliche- but truly it was amazing. I think the MOST important part about your wedding is the photographer you choose. I did a TON of research and only wanted the best. I didn't want a traditional wedding photographer nor did I want traditional pictures. I wanted someone to capture those unique and special moments w/out me knowing the picture was taken. So low and behold, I found Hoffmann. He is by far the most talented and phenomenal photographer I have ever seen. His work is not only artistic but it's truly magnificent.
0017
Here is my dress...I only tried on ONE dress and knew it was the one:) I actually did a ton of research online first, found this one and located only one store in CA that carried this line and drove quite a ways to try on a size 10 and even then, knew it was the right one for me. Luckily I was able to order it in a size 0:)
0443
This dress was extremely heavy. The top portion was very intricate with hundreds of beads and took countless days and weeks to get it tailored. They had to take out each bead one by one and re-put it back on after taking in the dress. The dress is a size 0 but still needed major alterations.
0765
0376
This is me right before walking down the stairs and down the aisle for the ceremony.
It was so difficult to select just a few of my favorites so hopefully you won't be overwhelmed by this post. I hope I didn't ruin the quality when uploading them here.  I tried to keep it sequential so it makes a bit more sense of our wedding day. A little history of me and lovely hubby. We were engaged only after 6 months, together for 11 years, married for the past 2 years. Yes I know, we had a very long engagement but we were very young and I am glad we waited. We moved out to CA from the Midwest together, we were busy focusing on our career so we wanted to wait until it was the right time.
0780
Our wedding truly was the best day of my life. It was perfection. Nothing went wrong and everything went right. We had perfect weather and the skies were the prettiest shades of blue. Everything just came together like magic! I never thought a day could be so perfect!
0441
We both wanted a very small and intimate wedding.  Being that most of our friends/family were from out of state and out of the country, we wanted to make sure it was intimate enough where you could spend time with everyone. After seeing so many people's large weddings and how exhausting it was and not knowing who most of the people attending, I knew that wasn't for us.
0382
The location was really important to me because I knew I wanted a beach wedding but did NOT want to be "in the sand" for our ceremony and I didn't want  just a typical beach wedding. I wanted something much more upscale and the setting had to be absolutely perfect.  I also needed another location to take pre-wedding photos with my family. And knew the St. Regis was just the right place!
0795
We decided to stay at The St.Regis Hotel overnight since we didn't live near our wedding location. This is one of my favorite hotels. It's so beautiful and perfect for a pre-wedding photos. Because so many of our family was flying in from all parts of the country and from Australia, I wanted to make sure we had pictures prior to the wedding. So the timeline was a bit backwards but it actually worked out perfectly. We had pre-wedding photos with the bride and groom as well as our family. It was the first time in a really long time that our entire family was in one spot.
0430
I know tradition is that the groom doesn't get to see the bride until she walks down the aisle but that just wasn't possible. The way we did it was very un-traditional but it worked out perfectly for our wedding since our wedding ceremony wasn't until right before sunset.
0319
Here is me getting my hair done...oh gosh I miss my light hair:( My hair stylist was just fantastic. She owns her own salon and I couldn't have chosen a better person to do my hair on my special day. I knew I wanted a veil with my gown but I didn't just any veil. I found this veil with little swarovski crystals and pearls that looked like tiny flowers scattered through out without being too busy or noticeable. Loved it!
0334
I contemplated about getting a makeup artist but am so glad that I did because she did an amazing job! So if you are petite bride to be and wondering if you should spend the money on getting professional makeup done, do it! It's worth every penny;)
0340
My make-up artist was amazing! I was really nervous because I have never had someone else do my make-up before but WOW- am I so glad I selected her.
0292
0343
0346
It was the first time ever in my life I had professional make-up and it was awesome!
0365
Here is hubby getting ready..so handsome he is! And he even wore pink for me to match our wedding color theme...such a gracious man he is!
0363
Oh our pretty little cake...it was so yummy! It was simple and elegant and matched everything perfectly.
0282
I still can't get over the perfect timing of Hoffmann. He was able to coordinate our after ceremony photos right at sunset. And the result, amazing pictures that almost make the background look fake!
02871851
I did all my own wedding planning. I even created our own invitations and menu place cards. I had a very specific idea in my head and I knew I was the only one that would be able to bring it to life. There was a coordinator for the location that helped with some things but I mainly did everything.
IMG_2517-1
The above picture was NOT taken by Hoffmann- it was taken by me. Just wanted to show you my invitation and party favor that I created. For privacy and security reasons, I had to blur out our full names.:)
0239
I chose the venue, music,  and I even selected the flowers and setting and even did my own favors!
0250
I don't think the day would have been the same w/out having Hoffmann as our photographer. My jaw still drops when I look at our wedding photos, it's just unbelievable.
0233
This is one of all time my favorite pictures and I made this the cover of our wedding photo book. It's perfect in every way...how on earth Hoffmann managed to get my veil blowing in the wind and the timing was incredible!
0266
Look at my tiny feet! Sorry for all the kissing photos, we are so in love:)
0232
This is also one of my favs...okay all of them are my favs! Look at the sun bursting thru us...it was magical! The wind was blowing at the perfect moment and the sun just about to go down...omg..I am getting teary eyed! I really wish I could post the thousands of great photos but clearly that wouldn't be possible.
1221
Here is my bouquet..can you guess my wedding colors? Pink and white of course! In case you are wondering, I am wearing my 1 carat princess cut platinum engagement ring (Jeff Cooper Design) on my right hand and my 3 carat radiant cut split shank Platinum (Danhov Design) wedding ring. In case you are wondering, my ring size is a tiny size 3! And yes those are my real nails! No acrylics here!
0625
This is me in the waiting room reading my vows waiting to walk down the aisle. I have never been so nervous in my life!
0047
The St.Regis is simply elegant and so gorgeous inside. We were so blessed to have this area of the hotel all to ourselves!
0170
This is in a very popular gazebo near our wedding location...everyone was so kind to have moved out of the way for our pics:)
0144
The best part about Hoffmann is that he knew what he wanted and was a great director. And most of the time, when we weren't posing, I hardly knew he was even there! He somehow managed to capture certain moments than only someone of this caliber could do. He truly is amazing and worth every penny!
0106
I truly felt like a princess that day.
0044
I have no idea how I managed to get on top of this piano....LOL
0293
And we danced the night away into the sunset...Thank you Hoffmann for doing such an amazing job. Words can't describe how phenomenal you are. I hope I can send many more brides your way. You truly made our day magical and now we have beautiful photos to look back on! I would HIGHLY recommend him for any brides to be. He does travel for weddings as well. I know when we decide to have a baby, he will definitely be the person to photograph our kids too! He does engagement photos, babies, couples, weddings and special occasions.
Please make sure to click on his link and see his amazing work!
