Recent Purchases at LOFT and Nordstrom's

**Update: Amrita Singh is having 40% site wide sale with code: 4JULY11**
How is it already almost July? Wow, this year is going by so fast!! Work has been keeping me very busy so I haven't had a chance to really plan any good posts. Just thought I'd share some of my recent purchases. I had $60 in LOFT rewards I had to use before they expire so I picked up this adorable ruffle cardigan in XXSP. It comes in dusty taupe and iron grey- got both colors just in case. They are on sale plus an additional 40% off.  I had to add additional items to my cart for free shipping so I got this twist strap dress to test out.
So you know how I have been searching and searching for the right pair of sandals? Well after many failed attempts, I realized no matter what I get- I always end up comparing them to my nude pair of wedges I got a couple of years ago at Nordie's. They are still available HERE and on sale with 20% off (small sizes and nude/black available)! I highly recommend them!!  They are seriously the most comfortable shoes on the planet. I can walk for 10+ hours in them shopping w/out my feet hurting and they have a 4" platform heel! I wore them for 3 weeks in Italy w/no pain. So I had a "DUH" moment last night before bed. Why don't I look for some cute versions of mine? Then I came across these cuties and knew they were the ones. Callisto usually focuses on slides with no straps around the ankle so I knew I better scoop these up.  The size 5 runs small which is PERFECT for my tiny feet! And they are light as a feather and I know I will get my money's worth. A bit pricey for sandals but I have worn my other knot wedge slides to the ground.
I also picked these up in brown. I wanted the yellow ones too but they are not as practical. I am trying my best to use this frame of mind, "Am I really going to wear this and how often?" That usually puts my purchases in check:)

If you follow me on Twitter or Facebook, you know I just treated myself to a Rebecca Minkoff purse (similar style but in a mini mini) which should be arriving today! Yippee! Also I have a couple more treats coming in the mail which I super excited about.....stay tuned!

Have a fabulous weekend! If you are going to the outlet's this weekend, here is a printable LOFT outlet coupon for an extra 20% off. And this is the LAST day to enter both of my giveaways HERE and HERE.

Review: Ann Taylor vs. Target maxi dresses

TARGETJUNIORDRESS1

Maxi dresses are so trendy right now but I never really thought I would ever wear one. The whole idea of a long dress seems very foreign to me unless it's formal attire. This past weekend I decided to try on one at the Ann Taylor factory and was shocked at how nicely it fit and the length was perfect.

Hubby is not a big fan of them at all and thinks they look silly. I decided to try 2 different brands and show you the difference.
SIZE/FIT: This is a junior size XS so it is very petite friendly. The length hits right where I like it for maxi dresses with and with/out shoes on. I think this style maxi def looks better with cute flats. I have to wear a racerback bra with this which I don't like. And it definitely doesn't do the figure justice-bunches up here and there and just doesn't hug your body.

QUALITY: The quality was what I expected. Nothing to write home about but it's not bad. It's a simple cotton. The only thing I didn't like is the fake drawstring at the waist. Material is 66% poly, 29% rayon and 5% spandex- feels and looks like cotton.

PRICE: $20.00 plus 20% off = $16

VERDICT: I am not a big fan of the color black but I like the simplicity of it. I like solid colors rather than prints. Still undecided. After posting this- RETURN.

I didn't see this one when I placed my order but the color is gorgeous and it's the same price! Get $5 off online orders of $50 or more with code: CPM5OFF50
ATFACTORYMAXI1
Ann Taylor factory maxi dress- size XXSP (other cute ones here and here and here)

SIZE/FIT: The fit of the XXSP fits nicely. The shoulders are not loose and sits where they should. No gap in the arm holes. And the best part is you can wear a bra! Some maxi styles, it can be tricky. The length is perfect for someone my height but only with tall wedges on. It's a bit long with flats. This dress hangs much better than the Target one.

QUALITY: The pattern is just "meh" for me. Don't love it, don't hate it but do wish it was solid. I was hoping to find a royal blue maxi.  The quality is factory quality but still nice. Material is 96% poly and 4% spandex.

PRICE: $69.99 with 40% off plus $20 rewards card = $21.99

VERDICT: I am having trouble figuring out how and when I would wear this. Is it practical for me? Possible return...Between the Ann Taylor and Target- I definitely prefer the AT one.
After writing this post, I have come to a conclusion....maxi dresses are NOT me. So these probably will be returns. If you love max dresses, then these 2 would be great options for you.

Do you own or like maxi dresses?

Shopping and Good Food

NEWPORTSHOPPING
Top: Ann Taylor factory shell- size XXSP (cute version here)
Skirt: BB Dakota Groton skirt- size 0 (crochet lace version)
Sandals: Nordstrom's callista nude wedges- size 5 (similar here and here and here)
Belt: Ann Taylor limelight skinny belt- size XS (similar here and here)

I didn't know how my parents would feel being exposed on the internet so I decided to black out their faces to protect them- even though they are adorable! It was the first time I have ever taken my nice camera out shopping and out to dinner so it was nice to get different pictures. Hubby was kind enough to play paparazzi..hehehehe We got a lot of stares because it looked like we were celebrities. I got a good chuckle:)
SHOESHOPPINGWINDOW
I thought this picture was pretty cool taken through the window. My parents and I went shopping at Fashion Island.  It's such a gorgeous mall and one of my favorites next to South Coast Plaza. It was my parents last day in CA and I was sad to see them go. Hopefully I will get to move them near me soon.
NEWPORTCOAST SIGN
Newport Coast is definitely somewhere I would like to end up. And every time I pass this sign, I always wish I could take a nice picture but never have my nice camera with me. I was in the car so it was a bit hard to get a perfect shot.
IMG_2805
Ah...nothing beats salt and pepper lobster. I could eat 4 plates of this!
IMG_2804
Hollow vegetables with shrimp sauce- to die for!!! Sounds weird but seriously delish!
I stopped by Ann Taylor factory and have been eyeing this maxi dress for months but never had time to try it on. The XXSP fits perfectly. I decided to go for it since they were having their 40% off sale plus I had a $20 rewards card gifted by Vicky. So $69.99 with 40% off plus $20 rewards card = $21.99 for a nice quality maxi dress that fits really nicely. Not 100% sure about the print but I will have a more detailed review up later this week.
I was tempted to get this dress too but not a big fan of strapless so I decided to pass. The XXSP fits perfectly and the length is really nice. There is a cute detail in the front which I couldn't capture but here is the tag in case anyone is interested.

Well that's all I've got for you! I hope everyone had a great weekend! And don't forget to enter my Banana Republic giveaway and Mr. Rebates giveaway! Both ends on 6/30!

Review: Miss Trish Girls Sandals and Target Xhilaration Dresses

blue6
Dress: Xhilaration Juniors Iris - size XS (buy HERE)
Sandals: Mossimo Patsy nude sandals- size 5.5 (buy HERE)
Belt: Ann Taylor Limelight - size XS (similar HERE)
Necklace: Amrita Singh (similar HERE)
Likes: I absolutely adore this iris blue color. It's gorgeous! And the back detailing is very unique and very outside my box. I like the fact that there is adjustable straps on top so it's not so low cut.

Dislikes: The material is polyester and very thin. It feels like I am wearing lingerie (sort of expected)- a little too sexy for me. The material is see-thru so I have to wear a target skirt slip underneath. (hence the picture with me showing the slip- and no I am not trying to be sexy)

Verdict: Return.

I love the patsy nude sandals but they are much too big. Such a bummer. Any ladies that can fit into a 5.5 would LOVE these! Super comfy and adorable.
Turqoise1
Dress: Xhilaration dress in teal- size XS (buy here)
Sweater: Ann Taylor limelight cardi- size XXSP (similar here)
Shoes: Miss Trish girls - size 3 (buy here)
Belt: LOFT leather braided- size XS (similar here)
Necklace: Amrita Singh (similar here)
Likes: The style and detail of the Miss Trish sandals are super cute and perfect for Summer.

Dislikes: My feet are a bit too wide for this even though the size 3 fits nicely everywhere else. The adult Miss Trish size 5's are too big so I don't think I am meant for this brand. My feet feel a slightly trapped in the straps towards the middle of my feet which probably  means I have to size up to a 4 kids.

Verdict: Return :(

So my entire order- fail! You'd think I would stay away from Target but I just ordered this maxi dress in XS and hope it works out. I don't have any maxi dresses and not even sure I can pull it off. I had to add $75 worth of stuff to get 20% off (promo still going on) so I found this crochet dress in XS. It also comes in petites but all the tiny sizes were sold out and I am pretty disgusted at how expensive this is!

Anyone else have luck with Target?

How to get what you want in life and fashion

I have been asked so many times, how do you manage to find certain sizes or items that are sold out? Or how do I always get the items I want? And I get this question almost on a daily basis, how are you so successful?  I don't have any magic tricks nor am I anything special but figured I would share with you what I do to find certain things. A lot of what I do in regards to my business/life,  I apply to fashion.  Here are the top 3 basic things:
ThinkingPhoto
Top: LOFT boyfriend blouse- size XXSP (similar here)
Skirt: Theory gray pencil skirt- size 00 (similar here and here)
Belt: Ann Taylor perfect patent skinny belt- size XS (similar here)
DREAMBOARD
Dream: Start a dream board or write everything you want down. Do you want a Chanel purse, a new car or perhaps a house? Write it down! Better yet is to start a dream board. If you don't know what a dream board is, it's just a visual board of items or things you want. It's worked for the car I wanted, the neighborhood I live in, the vacations I have taken, the Chanel purses and the list goes on and on. It's amazing what happens when you can visualize it or when you write things down!! Try it! I even go as far as if I want a fashion item super bad, I make it my screen saver on all my computers and change it once I get the item. I know as dorky as it is, but it works like a charm for me! Here is a sample of one of mine. I have several. All you do is cut out things from old magazines and put them up so you can visualize them everyday. Great project for kids and families to do together.

Believe: You have to BELIEVE. You have to believe in yourself. You have to believe that you can do whatever you want.  If you don't believe in what you want or if you don't believe in yourself, then you are never going achieve our goals. My whole life, I have always believed in myself and the things I want to achieve.  If there is a fashion item I am looking for, I have to believe that I will hunt it down. I have always believed I would be successful in life no matter what I chose to do. And I always believe that I can track down an item even long after it's been sold out. I will somehow find a way.
YippeePhoto
Achieve: You have to have determination and never giving up on your goals/dreams. If you want something, you should just go for it.  A great example of this is my oldie post on the famous Theory Gratian Tweed skirt suit. It was months and months after this suit was completely sold out everywhere but I still managed to track down a size 0 in both the jacket and skirt. I didn't get the 00 but it was miracle I even found either pieces. I was determined to get that suit regardless!

I think the most valuable lesson is to stay positive. The world is full of negative people, negative acts and I always make it a point to be a positive person.  I make sure to be grateful for the air I breathe, my health, my family, my husband, friends, and the success that I have worked very hard for. If something gets me down, I give myself 15 seconds to be mad and then I get over it. My positivity and enthusiasm has gotten me to where I am today.

I don't want to sound too preachy since this is a fashion blog, so on a lighter note, here are some ways I hunt down items for some of my favorite stores:

Ann Taylor/LOFT: If an item is sold out online or sold out in your size, you can call Ann Taylor online or call one of their local stores and have them do a style finder for you. This applies to the factory stores as well. If you have an AT/LOFT card, shipping should be free. Although there have been some discrepancies when an item is on sale so make sure to ask. Here is a sample tag and I have circled the actual item # and where to locate it on the tag. If the item is no longer in their system means that it has gone on FINAL clearance and a style finder is no longer an option. If this is the case, and you still are determined to find the item, you can call each store individually and ask for them to look on the clearance racks for you. Daunting- yes? Time Consuming- yes? Worth it- definitely. I've done this countless times and have been successful.

Banana Republic Factory: If you have the style # or tag, you can call any of the BR factory stores in the United States and ask for the SA to physically check the racks for your item in your size. This can be a daunting task and sometimes I wonder if the SA really indeed checks. But if you call during the weekday, the stores will be less busy and the SA will be more inclined to help you. Here is sample tag with the style # circled. The last 4 digits refers to whether or not its a PETITE size. BR factory does have the capability of checking for items that are not from their store inventory but you cannot place an order like AT/LOFT. You have to call each store individually to place the order. They charge $5 for shipping w/in the United States. I have circled what numbers to tell the SA and the last 4 digits (1000) means it's a petite size.
BRTAG
Theory Outlet: Depending on the store and the SA you get, you may or may not have to give them the style #. Most Theory stores go by the name and fabric.  Here is a sample tag as a reference:
THEORYTAG
The best times to call retail/factory stores is one hour after they open and one hour before the close. I have found that any other time, the stores are extremely busy and the SA will be less inclined to REALLY go check for your item or help you. Try to call on the weekdays verses the weekends. And do not attempt to call on any Holidays that they are open for business.
For any online purchases, the trick is to constantly check back for your item because most stores/sites update their inventory late in the evening/morning. One great trick is to save the page of the item you want and refresh as many times as you can. It's worked for me on numerous occasions and you can even do it on your iPhone. I was able to score my Theory tweed suit while brushing my teeth and checking my iPhone at the same time (yes I am quite determined).

Ebay and AlterationsNeeded's forum are also great options for finding petite/non petite items. I have scored a BB Dakota blazer to match my skirt from a fellow petite from AN's marketplace.

Obviously if all else fails, you may have to just go to every location of that specific store but that can be very time consuming and gas is expensive.

Also, you have to be super nice and sweet to the SA you are dealing with otherwise they will not want to help you. Make sure to throw some compliments their way and tell them how much you appreciate their help. Everyone loves compliments and everyone needs to be acknowledged and praised:)

Hope you found this helpful!!!!

Color Blocking: Something old, something new and something blue

COLORBLOCKINGPIC
Top: Banana Republic factory- size XXSP (similar here and here)
Skirt: Forever 21 hot pink pencil skirt- size XS (similar here and here)
Belt: Ann Taylor Limelight Skinny Belt- size XS (similar here and here)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin Simple 100- size 35/5 (buy here)

Alas, I have officially joined the color blocking trend! A year ago, I would have NEVER thought to wear these colors together!!! I actually wore this to work today and got tons of compliments. No one is used to seeing me in such vibrant colors:)
In case your wondering, the title of this post, "something old, something new and something blue"- the skirt is super old, the new is my beloved Louboutin's (early b-day gift) I have been coveting them since I got the black simple 100's last August. And the something blue is clearly my shirt. Just thought I would explain it!
I am super excited for this weekend! I get to see my parent's who are coming in from the Midwest. My birthday will be extra special this year because I get to spend it with them. Being the baby of the family, it's hard to be so far away so  I am super happy to see them!

Here is how to recreate this look: (click on each image to shop)

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

What do you think about these colors? Do they work together?

20% off Sale at Target plus Free Shipping

I bought a few things online last night and realized that Target is having their 20% off sale when you spend $75 plus free shipping over $50 and wanted to share with you what I got. And you get 4% back at MrRebates so if you haven't already, here is my referral link and  if you sign up, you are automatically entered to win $100 from Amazon (my current giveaway).

Iris or Teal Dress- size XS
I love both colors and couldn't decided so I bought both and will see which one looks better. I was drawn to this dress not only because of the cute ruffle front but the detailing in the back is adorable! And since it's junior's sizing, I have high hopes it will fit nicely. It sort of looks like a nighty but we shall see!

I was super bummed last Summer when I bought the Miss Trish sandals in size 5 (adult) and they were gigantic on me. So thanks to Jean, I picked these babies up in a size 3 kids. Size 4 in kids is still too big for so I know these will fit perfectly! And I love that they aren't too "kiddish" and look almost identical to the adult styles. I am in love with these wedge heels and wish they had size 5. I also picked up these patsy tan heel sandals in a 5.5 just to add enough to my cart but know they will be too big. I can only wish they came in a size 5!
A bit of warning, I had to call Target after placing my order because they didn't apply the 20% off correctly due to an error on their end. So make sure your item has the logo that says "Save 20% off when you spend $75" and even if it does, that the  promo is applied.  Even though both dresses had this logo, it was never applied to my cart so I had to call and get it adjusted.

Hope these work out! Oh and if you like pumps with a strap to hold your feet in, these cute mary janes come in 3 different colors!

Anyone else pick up anything from Target?

H & M outfit for only $50

IMG_1673
Top: H & M divided tee- size 2 (similar here)
Blazer: H & M navy- size 2 (similar here)
Skirt: H & M floral pink skirt- size XS (similar here or here)
Shoes: Aldo gold wedge sandals - size 5 (similar here)
Ring: F21 (similar here or here)
I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but I have been trying to build the more "casual" side of my closet. I have great pieces for work (thanks to blogging) but on my off days,  as I am getting ready to go out with hubby for the day, I find myself sitting and staring aimlessly into the racks of my closet. I mumble to myself, "I have nothing to wear....I have no casual clothes." And then I find myself stomping my foot like a kid and end up pouting because I can't come up with a casual outfit.
This H & M skirt is only $12.95 and comes in all kinds of colors. I chose pink (of course) and I loved that it had speckles of navy and light blue flowers. It's a tiny bit sheer but opaque enough that if you wear nude panties, you should be fine.
IMG_1687
The entire outfit (minus accessories) was only $53. Here is everything broken down: Blazer $34.95 + Tee $5.95 + Skirt $12.95 = $53 (Okay, so I rounded down few bucks for the sake of the title.)
IMG_1680
Please excuse the gold sandals, this will explain why I am on a crazy search for the summer sandals! I seriously have none! I would have loved to pair this outfit with some camel/brown sandals.
IMG_1669
You can recreate this outfit ALL from Forever 21: (click on each photo)

Or you can just take any floral skirt and solid blazer with a plain tee as well. This is such an easy and comfortable outfit to wear on the weekends. Plus if I get hot, I can take the blazer off and just wear a the plain tee.

Are you into the floral print?
