Asymmetric Bardot Cocktail Dress – size US 2 petite (buy here)
(was $116, $53.72 – coral is $46.55)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin – size 34.5 (buy here)

I have been looking for a dress to wear to an up-coming Spring wedding. My requirements were: under $100, pretty Spring color, no alterations, elegant and feminine.
I was drawn to this gorgeous color and when I saw the price, I was sold. They were sold out of the smallest size which was US 1 petite so I opted for the next size available and prayed it ran small. The color description said “lime” but it looked more of a yellow to me. I’ve been really into yellow and chartreuse so I thought, if this fits, it would be perfect.  I figured I had nothing to lose and with free shipping and free returns, I pulled the trigger.

Likes: I love the color. It’s not too bright but soft enough that it’s not pastel. It’s definitely not a “lime” color but more of a chartreuse/yellow.  The fit is a really nice cut. It’s not too tight in any areas which was a concern for me because I want to be able to move around easily. There’s nothing worse than being at an event and feeling uncomfortable. This fits like a size 2 at H&M and smaller than most 00P dresses I have. The dress zips up easily (no doing the crazy chicken dance while trying to get into it) and the boning in the bust area keeps the dress from slipping down.  I’m curious to see how the US 1 petite would fit?  I love the single shoulder with a pleated band to the neckline- oh so feminine and dainty.  The bandage style and fitted pencil skirt make the silhouette of this dress really long and lean. I feel extra tall in it!  The single back vent allows me to walk easily and dance freely at the wedding : ) Yes I like to bust a move! The length hits right at the knees which is the perfect length for this type of dress. No alterations needed- woo hoo!

Dislikes: The material is appears to be very wrinkle prone. As you can see, I haven’t steamed it yet so it’s a hot mess and very wrinkly. I am wondering if it will wrinkle easily after hours of sitting down for a wedding. I am hoping the pleated band to the neckline stays in place. I did notice that it’s hard to move my right arm- not sure how that will affect my dancing skills : )

ASOSdress1Price: $116 – on sale for $53.72

I don’t think this is a bad price for this type of dress.  I can definitely wear this more than once so I know I will get my money’s worth.

Verdict: Keeping! It’s a very elegant dress for a decent price and I am in love w/the color and fit.

Here are other dresses I considered:
One shoulder drape dress (non petite sizes) in nude
Peplum dress in blush (small sizes sold out)
Ottaman cocktail dress
Puff sleeve strap dress in gray

  1. I love asos and all the petite dresses that are soo fashionable but also affordable! I love this dress on you and the colour is so current! – pastel bright.

I've always wanted a reference for asos petite sizing, your blog helps A LOT. THANK YOUU!!

    xoxo champagne

    I'm a new follower 🙂

  2. It looks a lot more expensive and is different in a really elegant way. I also LOVE the colour which is perfect against your skin tone btw.

  3. The fit below the bust looks a little off. Possibly because of the fabric? Did you try a belt with it, I think that will make it look better. The color is very nice and sping-like.

  4. I also purchased this dress for a wedding last June, however my experience was not nearly as good! The body of the dress fit great – there was only one problem, there was only about an inch of space between the body of the dress and the arm band where my arm was supposed to fit. I couldn't even get my shoulder or arm in there in anyway. I'm thinking I got a defective dress. The dress was gorgeous otherwise but it was pretty useless since I couldn't get my arm in it! Also, I did get the dress in the US 1 petite and would normally be a 00 or 0P. So just as a precaution to anyone else who orders the dress, beware of the armhole size!

  5. It 's a terribly flattering colour and shape for you, you're sooooooooo skinny! If that dress would ever fit me, I'd jump all over it 🙂 Love the cost too…can't beat $50 for such an elegant and classy number.

  6. wow, that dress looks AMAZING on you! It is so flattering to your figure, you'll be a hit in that dress!

  7. That is a cute dress and you look lovely in it! Yeah, your right hand movement will be kinda restricted in this dress. I have a similar dress and it I dint realize that coz I was sooo in love with it!

  8. i think the one shoulder is very elegant but for some reason it hides your sexy curves. i suppose you want to keep it conservative as a wedding guest though. either way you look beautiful, annie

  9. Pretty! I'm thinking it might look less bridesmaid-y if you paired it with some stacked bracelets and bright shoes like a bright purple or cobalt blue suede. Mmmmm.

  10. Very elegant and feminine! Although I do feel it needs some accessories… which I'm sure you won't neglect. 🙂 What a great price for the dress. It looks so much more expensive!! It looks and fits perfect on you. 🙂

  11. The pleating details on that dress are beautiful. The color really compliments your skin tone.

  12. A size 1 had popped back 5 minutes ago. You look fantastic and don't over accessorize in this dress. A ruby diamond or emerald diamond vintage brooch will add an elegant touch.

  13. This color is BEAUTIFUL against your complexion. It gives you a soft glow. This is your color.

  14. I saw the sneak peek of this dress on Instagram and it really got me excited to see your post. The dress is really pretty and I'm glad you're keeping it. Even though it's not really lime, it's still a beautiful color and looks great against your skin tone.

  15. I love browsing through ASOS, but was super confused about sizing. When I saw your review of the dress I finally took the plunge and ordered since I know I'm usually one size larger than you in most clothes. I just received the dress and I totally love it. It looks and feels way more expensive than it actually was. Thanks for helping me find a great dress!

  16. I’m amazed, I must say. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining,
