Petite Fashion Challenge #16: Summer Wedding

This month's Petite Fashion Challenge is being hosted by Petite on a Penny. The challenge is:

Summer Wedding: Create an outfit for a Summer Wedding. For Bonus points, try to make your outfit, head to toe come under $100 (or exclude shoes and accessories to meet the $100 mark).

I have been so behind on the blogging world that I almost missed this challenge. Thanks to Jessy tweeting about it, I was able to squeeze in at the last minute.

Dress: Ann Taylor - 00p (similar HERE and HERE)
Blouse: Ann Taylor {see on Kelly} - size 00P (similar HERE and HERE)
Belt: H&M {old} - (similarHERE and HERE)
Shoes: Christian Louboutin - (buy HERE)
Purse: Chanel (similar vintage Chanel HERE)
Necklace: LOFT {old} (similar HERE and HERE)
PFC#16-1.jpg
A word of caution if you are interested in this dress (I believe it's sold out online but it's recent- style #278117), the fit is very wide. I also bought the refined jersey dress in mystical green but that is also too wide- see here.  I have this dress pinned for the sake of this post but the waist and sides will need to be slimmed.  I really like the color and don't have any sheath dresses with sleeves so I'll be getting this tailored. This is my second attempt at layering a collared shirt under a dress. It was much easier because of the material - it doesn't show the lumps as much and it helped that the dress was loose. See how I layered a chambray blouse underneath my Loft sweater dress here.  I'm excited to see what everyone comes up with:)

Neutral Stripes, Chanel Pearl Necklace and Chanel Mini Classic Flap

Purse: Chanel mini classic flap (similar vintage Chanel)

A reader and now good friend, Karri was kind enough to share with me what her recent find was at Banana Republic. When I saw how well it fit her (we are the same size except she is a couple inches taller), I  couldn't resist ordering. Here is what it looks like on the BR model (nothing special) but on Karri it looks amazing:
BRDressComparison
The only downside to this dress is that it's unlined. I don't understand why BR does this to some of their dresses, especially given the price point. Does it really cost that much to put a thin layer of lining? I love stripes and I don't have anything like this that I can wear to work.
BananaRepublicStripedSheath05.jpg
The length is perfect on me and this dress requires no alterations! Woo hoo! See me wearing it to work with my vintage gold chain here on Instagram.  After taking these photos, I like this outfit with the gold chain better but I was so antsy to showcase my new necklace.
BananaRepublicStripedSheath03.jpg
I love my new mini classic flap (2012 collection) although I do wish it was more of a richer cognac color. The color is called "light brown" but it's more of a light saddle brown or a light cognac.  I noticed that the caviar is much softer than my other flaps. I was hesitant about it being too small but I think it's a great size and it doubles as a cross body.

Chanel Handbags and Accessories Collection

I've had a lot of questions about Chanel handbags and accessories so I thought I'd do a collective post on my latest Chanel pieces.  Some of you are looking to get your first Chanel item and don't know where to start so I thought I would share with you what has helped me figure out which purse to get and also show you my updated collection.

Let's start off with purses...

If you are in the market for your first Chanel handbag, I would suggest thinking of what price point you can afford or are willing to spend. Since Chanel is continuously increasing their prices each year, you have to  determine if you are going to buy brand new or pre-owned.  Always use TPF (The Purse Forum) as a guide and to get pre-owned purses authenticated.
IMG_8669.jpg
Next, what style purse/handbag best suits your style or needs?  My very first Chanel purse was a black caviar Grand Shopper Tote with silver hardware. I use it everyday as a work bag and it fits everything I need. The dark beige Petite Shopper Tote (PST) on the left was added last year during the Bloomingdale's promotion.
ChanelCollection3.jpg
My second purse was a black caviar medium classic double flap with gold hardware (birthday gift from hubby). I added the red lambskin w/gunmetal hardware and the taupe lambskin with silver hardware last year.
ChanelCollection4.jpg
(Yellow Sevruga WOC caviar w/silver hw {early b-day gift}, Black lambskin WOC w/silver hw)
Once you figure out what style is best suited for your lifestyle, determining what size and color you would get the most use out of is probably the next step. Do you carry a ton of stuff in your purse or are you a minimalist? I don't typically carry too much on a day to day basis. My essentials usually include iPhone, wallet, chapstick/lipgloss and gum.  For work, I use my GST to lug around papers or documents that I need for the day.
ChanelCollection5.jpg
(2012 Classic Caviar Mini in "light brown" w/silver hardware)
The next process has been always a difficult one for me. What type of leather will you be choosing? There are several types of leather materials Chanel uses but the popular ones include calfskin, caviar (which is calfskin that is heated and treated to get the caviar finish) and lambskin.   Lambskin is known for their smooth and buttery soft leather but is also very expensive and prone to scratches, stains and indents. You have to be extremely cautious when storing them in their dust bag/box to avoid the straps from making marks in your leather.  I doubt I will purchase anymore lambskin bags in the future although I do love the softness of it. Caviar is my favorite for the pebble like texture and durability. You don't have to worry  or freak out if the purse touches something while you are shopping or at dinner (even though I still freak out).

After figuring all this out, it's time to go shopping (the fun part)! Chanel purses are an expensive investment so make sure you shop around and take your time.  My advice is: do not settle. If you don't love love it, then wait for something else. If you are going to spend this amount of money, make sure it's something you will cherish for a long time if not forever.

(2011 Chanel Pearl CC 35" necklace)
ChanelPearls
As far as Chanel jewelry goes, the latest addition is my Chanel logo pearl necklace (early b-day gift). I've been wanting one for the longest time and could never find exactly what I was looking for. I debated over a shorter, choker style pearl necklace with gold CC's (see here) but wanted something that I could wear several different ways.  I finally decided and found this 35" classic CC pearl necklace with gold hardware. I love that I can wear it long or double it up for a different look. The CC's have tiny pearls inside. I really wanted plain gold colored CC's but I don't know if it exists in a 35" length. If you like crystals, it also comes with CC's that have small crystals in them.  I know I will have these pearls forever and they will never go out of style. That's important to me especially when it comes to designer jewelry.
ChanelCollection6.jpg
My very first Chanel jewelry piece were these pendant diamante logo earrings from the end of 2009 {very bottom}.  I am currently looking for a pair of quilted logo studs from 2011. I have recently added a vintage Chanel brooch and vintage clip on earrings that I use as shoe clips to my jewelry collection.
ChanelCollection7.jpg
These Chanel cap toe pumps were a major splurge for me a few months ago. They are so pretty that I am too scared to wear them. The good news is that the size 35's run small and fit me really well.

Last but not least, here are my sunglasses and eyeglasses. They are both recent and from the 2012 collection.

If you are wondering if I am obsessed with Chanel? The answer is an obvious yes:)

Review: Ann Taylor Modern Tweed Jacket

Top: Ann Taylor factory {old} - size XXSP
Skirt: Ann Taylor {last year} - size 00P (similar here and here)
Shoes: Classiques Entier - size 5 (buy here)
Necklace: Pearls (similar here)
Brooch: Vintage Chanel

I fell in love with this jacket when I first saw it online. As soon as I noticed the cropped cut and how reminiscent it was to the Theory Gratian blazer, I didn't even think twice about ordering it.
AnnTaylorCoralTweed1.jpg
MEASUREMENTS:
Shoulder to shoulder = 13"
Armpit to armpit = 15"
Sleeves = 22"
Total length at the shortest point = 15"
Longest point = 17"
AnnTaylorCoralJacket07.jpg
MATERIAL: 100% cotton - it's really stiff and almost feels like a thick linen fabric. I didn't like the material. I wish it was as softer cotton.

SIZE: 00P - this runs super small ( you may need to size up) which is great for someone smaller than me. The sleeve length fits with no alterations. I love the cropped style and  it looks great with both a pencil skirt and jeans/pants.

COLOR: The color is called coral reef. It's a stunning color and can add great color to your wardrobe.
AnnTaylorCoralJacket03.jpg
I could have done without the zipper detail but I guess that's what makes it a "modern" style. The price is very steep so wait for a sale if you can.

VERDICT: Undecided. Trying to figure out if I will wear it often enough and if I can live with the stiff material.

What are your thoughts on this modern tweed jacket?

Chanel Sevruga Yellow Caviar WOC

YellowChanelWOC09.jpg
Blouse: Loft {old} -  XXSP (similar here and here)
Necktie: Scarf belt taken from F21 pants {old} (similar here)
Pants: Loft {old} - 00P (similar here and here)
Shoes: Tory Burch Cap Toe {old} -size 5 (similar here)
Purse: Chanel Sevruga Yellow WOC
Sunglasses: Chanel
YellowChanelWOC11.jpg
I first have to tell you how incredibly hot it was outside the day I decide to wear pants! It's not often that I do but why on earth I chose such a hot day and to take blog photos? Not sure what I was thinking... This outfit was one of those instances where it looked better in my head. I was all excited to use this old Forever 21 scarf belt on some old pants (donated but kept the belt) as a neck tie on a collared shirt. It didn't turn out exactly as I had hoped. I think it may look better on a true button up blouse.
YellowChanelWOC3.jpg
This post is really to focus on my new yellow Chanel WOC (wallet on chain).  It's been on my wish list but haven't been able to find the right shade of yellow. I originally wanted mustard but couldn't find one anywhere. I knew I wanted caviar over lambskin since it would be easier to maintain and wouldn't stain as easily when worn with darker clothing. When I laid my eyes on this baby, I told hubby I had to have it. He got it as an early b-day gift. There is one more item on my b-day list and fingers crossed that I get it : )
YellowChanelWOC10.jpg
YellowChanelWOC05.jpg
The color just makes me smile and it's a nice addition to my Chanel collection.
YellowChanelWOC1.jpg
These pants don't fit perfectly (*sigh*) and I feel so awkward in them. The waist is tad too big and even with a belt, the butt puckers and looks very unattractive. I was in the mood to wear pants and wanted to showcase my new gift:)

What are your thoughts on my new Chanel?

H&M Teal Ruched Knit Skirt & Other finds (Plus Get Your 35% Coupon)

H&MRuchedTealSkirt4.jpg
Blouse: Ann Taylor {see draped neck version here} - 00P (similarHERE and HERE)
Skirt: H&M (similar HERE or  here in pink)
Shoes: Ann Taylor - size 5 (similar HERE and HERE)
Belt: Taken from H&M dress
Clutch: H&M (similar HERE)
Sunglasses: Chanel
H&MRuchedTealSkirt2.jpg
I love the color, ruching detail  and length of this skirt but it does have it's issues.  It's a knit material so it makes it hard to tuck in shirts and panty lines are an issue in the back.  I have to invest in some spanks or something to avoid this problem in the future. Luckily the blouse is super thin that it didn't add to much bulk when tucked in.  I don't have anything in this color or style and it was on sale for $14.95 (reg. price was $24.95) plus 35% off for a grand total of $9.71.
H&MRuchedTealSkirt5.jpg
Ring: YSL arty ring- size 4 (buy HERE)
Polish: Revlon Minted (buy HERE)
Necklace: Loft {old} (similar HERE or HERE)
Unfortunately the knit material is also wrinkle prone- especially in the back:( You can see it in the picture below- gasp!
H&MRuchedTealSkirt3.jpg
H&MRuchedTealSkirt6.jpg
All in all, I do like the style and the length is work appropriate.
If you haven't gotten your 35% off coupon (good until 5/27), print it HERE.
H&MBag
I found this lonely orange striped travel bag that can double as a beach bag. I've never seen it before and it was the only one on the rack. It's a great size and is quite sturdy with two handles and a longer strap. I didn't think it was a bad price for $25 (after 35% off).  I will be definitely using it next time I travel. I like to put my purse inside another bag to protect it from going through the airport belt/scanner.

I have been trying to search for this lace sheath dress (left pic) with no luck and  instead found a similar skirt version from the Conscious Collection for only $10 (after my coupon):
H&MLaceSkirt
Has anyone seen this lace sheath dress? I'm not sure if it's from the Conscious Collection or not but it's very similar to the lace skirt. Please do share if you have seen this. I am looking for a size 2! The fit of the skirt is a bit wide in the hips and the lining underneath tends to stick out longer than the lace. Other than that, I love the color and can't resist a pretty lace skirt - especially for only $10.
What did you score this past weekend?

Review: ASOS Petite Scarf Print Dress

ASOSscarfPrintDress1.jpg
Dress: ASOS - size 1 petite (buy here or here in midi length)
Shoes: Classiques Entier - size 5 (buy here)

SIZE/FIT:  Size 1 petite is very form fitting and short. It's just too sexy for my taste although I like the concept of it. Too bad it wasn't better quality.
ASOSscarfprintdress2.jpg
MEAUSUREMENTS: Shoulder to shoulder = 10", armpit to armpit = 12", Total length = 31"

MATERIAL/QUALITY: 95% polyester, 5% elastane. The material is very thin and see through. How unfortunate because I love the print but expected this poor quality from ASOS. It almost feels like sleepwear but I do have to admit, it does feels nice against your skin. Perhaps it could work for a vacation dress.

PRICE: For $43, it's not worth it. Maybe for $10? Lol. I think there will be better options at H&M.

VERDICT: Return.
It also comes in blue and a midi length.
ASOSscarfprintdress3-1.jpg
I tried to see if I could make it work as a top but still doesn't do anything for me.

How To: Pack For Vacation (carry on only)

Some people are good travelers, some are good suitcase packers, I'm unfortunately neither. I never know what to bring and always end up overpacking. I'm constantly paranoid that I will posssibly need something and always wonder what if I run out of things to wear? I have never flown without checking in luggage but this time hubby and I decided we were going to try bringing carry on's for each of us. I thought it would be impossible but we did it!  I decided that I was going to really make an effort to think it through and plan my outfits, shoes and accessories.  If you are traveling and have trouble figuring out want to bring, here are some helpful tips that I used when packing.
Suitcase1
Left to right- Outfit #1: Forever 21 knit dress (similar here), H&M belt taken from dress
Outfit #2: J.Crew perfect tee, H&M necklace, Forever 21 striped belt, H&M crochet skirt
Outfit #3: H&M tee, H&M belt, Target skirt {recommended by PennyPincherFashion} **not great for traveling - wrinkles too easily**
1. COLOR THEME
Start with figuring out what color theme you want to stick with. For example- are you more of a brown or black shoe person when traveling? For me, I usually stick with browns when I'm on vacation. I'm not sure why this is but all my casual clothes seem to match with the brown theme more. Once you figure this out, then it's a much easier planning your outfits and accessories.
Suitcase2
{from left to right} Outfit #1: H&M dress, Outfit #2: H&M top, Banana Republic shorts, Outfit #3: H&M tee, H&M skirt {old}

2. OUTFITS
Next I started planning outfits. For this trip, since I was going to a tropical island, I knew I wanted to bring comfortable clothes but also didn't want to compromise fashion for comfort. I figured we would be sunbathing during most of the day so I wanted easy outfits to throw on that could easily transition into evening attire. I found it easier to lay out all my potential outfits instead of throwing random things into my suitcase. When I didn't plan anything out, it resulted in me not using or wearing the majority of the stuff I packed.

I planned to re-wear some items and mix and match as much as I could. For example, I knew I could re-use the same brown belt from my paisly dress for several different outfits which then saves me room for bringing several belts. I mix and matched the same tops with different bottoms to try to utilize space.

3. PANTIES AND BRAS
I like to plan my panties and bra's during this step. I always try to make sure I have nude/seamless panties for any outfits that have white or are form fitting. I think having comfy  panties is just as important as anything and making sure that you can't see panty lines is crucial. I think the wrong undergarments can ruin a great outfit.  For however many days/nights, I like to make sure I have plenty of panties. Since it's a beach vacation and I will be in a bathing suit during the day, I brought 12 pairs of panties (2 extra) for 10 days. If you have strapless dresses, don't forget a strapless bra. I put all my bras and panties in an old Gucci dust bag to protect them.
Suitcase4
{from left to right} Outfit #1: {old} dress from boutique
Outfit #2: H&M top, H&M skirt
Outfit #3: H&M shift dress w/belt
4. SWIMWEAR
Suitcase3
Some people like to pack one bathing suit for every day but I don't like mismatched tan lines so I usually like to stick with a maximum of three bikinis. I usually end of gravitating to only 2 out of the 3 anyway. The rope nautical/navy bottom (American Eagle - XS on sale for $11 {similar here}) was inspired by HerWaiseChoice . The other two bikini's are super old. (black/white with pink is the one I wore to Bora Bora)
Suitecase5
Necklace: H&M, Nautical Bracelet: c/o SewPetite Gal (customize your's here), Bangles and Cuff: H&M, Spike Bracelet: c/o Stella Dot
5. ACCESSORIES
Next are accessories- I don't like to pack too many chunky accessories when traveling but like to have a few to add some flavor to my outfits. I chose my peach statement necklace from H&M because I knew I could wear it with several outfits and its perfect for my island vacation! Since I didn't have much room to pack more jewelry- I opted for some arm candy. They are light weight and easy to pair with most if not all my outfits.  I put all my jewelry in a long tubular make-up pouch.
I can't forget my striped floppy hat. It was not only adorable to wear but came in handy when I wanted to protect my face from the sun. It was easy to fold and put on top of everything in my carry on.
Purses
6. PURSES
Decide which purse(s) you are going to bring that can be used in multiple ways. Since I was hauling my DSLR, I needed a purse big enough to store it safely. I chose my burnt orange Rebecca Minkoff to carry my camera and makeup bag. I carried the RM on the plane and packed my Coach purse since it was more compact.  I used my vintage coach purse to double as a clutch (for evening) and crossbody (daytime).

7. SHOES
Select your shoes carefully. Have one pair for evening that you can re-wear night after night, a pair of beach flip flops and one day-time flats.  I brought one pair of Old Navy girls flip flops, Me Too nude flats and Ivanka Trump strappy sandals.
I got a size 3 in girls (comparable to a size 5 in women's) and it was still a bit big on my me in the heel area. It was a last minute purchase and I was desperate but I ended up really liking them.
Shoes
Top: Me Too "Patty" flats in size 4.5
Bottom: Ivanka Trump Sandals in size 4.5
8. MAKE-UP AND TOILETIRES
This is where I used to go overboard and pack a ton of toiletries that I didn't really need. Since we were going to Maui and I knew there would be plenty of stores there, it was more cost effective for me to buy a few necessary items like razors, shaving cream and SPF (this may not work with all trips). If you are staying in a resort, more than likely they will provide lotion, shampoo and conditioner. I usually go really light with make-up on vacation because you really don't need much except maybe a few essential items.

9. PACKING
The key is not what you pack but how you pack it. I learned a neat trick from my mom and Aunt a long time ago and that is to roll up all your clothes into a tube like shape. This is a space saver and helps your clothes from wrinkling too much.
Suitcase1.jpg
I like to layer the bottom right (where it truly will be the bottom once you stand it up if it's a roll type of suitcase) of my suitcase with my shoes and heavier items. {tip: I usually wrap each pair of shoes in a plastic bag/ziplock} Then I start putting all my clothes neatly in a column and stack. Below is an example: (not everything is included since I had to recreate my suitcase for the purpose of this post)
Suitcase2.jpg
Another great tip is to have separate compartments/sections for each category in your suitcase so it's easy to find when you arrive at your destination and unpack.

It worked out really nicely for me. I wore and used everything I brought. It was nice not having to wait for our luggage and saved us a little bit of money:) Hope you find this post helpful.
