I can usually tell if I will have a good photo shoot or because if I start out not feeling confident about my outfit, chances are that I won’t like any of my photos. I wasn’t even going to  post this outfit because the pictures were so bad.  Since I didn’t have anything planned for today, I figured what the heck.

This skirt doesn’t fit perfectly therefore I don’t feel great in it. It’s hard to tell from the pictures but it does have some issues. The sides are about 1-1.5″ too wide making the front middle part pouf out.  I compared it to some of my other skirts that fit and it’s a pretty big difference. The waist is slightly too loose but when belted, I can get away with it.  I’ve noticed that when something fits perfectly, I feel so much more better about my outfit.  Since I got this skirt at such a bargain, I will be definitely tailoring it.  I know that if I don’t, I will never reach for it and it’ll just end up collecting dust.

  1. I think the outfit looks great, but when you point out the issue, I can see it. I don't think it's overly obvious, but I am one of those ladies with non-existent hips and I have this problem with every single pair of non-stretchy bottoms I buy so I know what you're referring to. As I said, though – it's not glaringly obvious if you're not looking for it. With your fabulous DIY skills I'm sure you can take it in! 🙂

  2. Agree it poofs out on the side pics, which makes it unflattering…..def needs to be altered. It could just be me but I wouldn't wear this skirt unless I were on vacation somewhere tropical…big floral prints out of that context kind of seem too old lady couch fabric for me.

  3. Well, I can't figure out the defects that you are talking about in theses photos! You look just as amazing as always! Love the print on the skirt, but then again I understand when you say it does not fit you well, as for me too, fit is everything in a piece of clothing!

  4. This skirt is definitely big on you. At least, you didn't have to pay full price for it. I am sure it'll look amazing after some tailoring.

  5. The length of the skirt is awesome on you…you look long and lean. Beautiful, girly outfit!

  6. aaw annie, what's ironic is when you say you are self conscious about some outfits, i actually think it's one of the better outfits!

I"m really happy to see a different belt and bringing these shoes back out and remixing your closet. not to mention this old H&M shirt that i think goes very well w/it.

it's summer so i'm glad to see this is not being paired w/a blazer. I see what you mean about the skirt. I think all it really needs is minor tailoring and tapering. Something easy that is worth it if you like the skirt. at least it's worth it to feel confident in, IMO, as I am the same way about clothes.

  7. Hi Annie,
You are naturally so beautiful that everything looks good on you. That said, this outfit is not my favourite – I do agree with the other post that the floral print is too big, and for a holiday the cut is too formal for my taste, so I wouldn't necessarily wear it on holiday either. I would stick to your advice on one of your old posts "If you don't LOVE it, don't buy it, because you won't wear it!" By the way, I bought those shoes you are wearing on your recommendation and absolutely LOVE them!

  8. I liked this skirt since your last post and happy to see it on you. You're right that it doesn't quite fit your small frame just right but I think with a tad of tailoring it could be stellar. Love how you paired it with the light and demure colors to bring down its "loudness" a notch.

  9. Just by looking at the pictures, I think this outfit looks great! The blouse + the floral skirt look very nice together. Another reader pointed out that you can only see the fit issues after you mentioned it. From a glance, the skirt looks fine but on closer inspection, I guess I can see how the skirt may be unflattering from certain angles. Definitely post the "after" pictures if you get it tailored! 🙂

  10. I love that you've been going for brighter colors and prints recently. They are lovely on you!

  11. Very pretty skirt!! I have the same one in 00P, my hips are so big it fills it out, so I don't have the problem of the loose in the hips, and the waist fits perfectly. I love this skirt!!! I was eyeing it for a while and finally got it for a great deal too!! I feel that it is a bit long for my liking though. I will hem it up 1.5 inches. I am 5'0 by the way!! 🙂 and the skirt looks great on you!! 🙂

  12. You're right, good tailoring is so key! I wish my clothes fit better. I more often than not just settle :(. I love the bright print! Hope tailoring meets all of your expectations!

  13. That skirt is so pretty on you and your outfit is really beautiful.
