I recently got this Gap girls denim jacket for only $13.99. I usually wear a size 10/12 in girls but ordered a size large and XL to compare. The XL ended up working the best. The large could work for someone with a smaller chest. I could hardly button it up and the arms were a bit tight.  I’ve been wanting a jean jacket but every one that I tried on was too big. I wanted something fitted and most importantly, the arms had to be slim and not too long. All the women’s jean jackets I have tried, the arms were always too wide and long.

Measurements: shoulder to shoulder – 12.5″, armpit to armpit is 15.5″, sleeve length – 21.5″, total length – 16.5″
The sleeves are nice and narrow and length fits me perfectly.  The shoulders and torso fit me well (as a reference – I’m 5′ tall)  I wanted a bit of a lighter wash but the color ended up working out.

Some other good options if you are looking for a denim jacket is this one from Forever 21 or this one at American Eagle. I was tempted to order this one since it came in XXS but the price was still too much. I believe it’s a junior’s brand so it will definitely run smaller than a regular woman’s denim jacket.

The only thing I didn’t like about this girls denim jacket are the two front chest pockets. They are placed a bit higher than the women’s. I’m not sure how much this will bother me but wanted to point it out.
Do you own a denim jacket and which brands do you recommend?

  1. Great fit, good sleeve length and hits right at the hip. I don’t mind the high chest pockets. I bought one from JCP brand over the summer and unfortunately haven’t worn it a lot though I like it. LOVE that vintage Coach! I have the current version in orange :).

  3. Pretty outfit! I love the denim against the red wool skirt. The girls denim jacket fits you perfectly and I don’t see any issues with the pockets.

I may check out the denim jacket I saw from Gap in the petites section or the F21 version. 🙂 If you tried on either let me know.

  5. Very casual and cool outfit! The jean jacket looks great on you, and the wild animal print pumps offer some wild style to this outfit. I do tend to agree with you on the front pockets.

So I don’t forget, it has been great to comment on your style this year. As a new year approaches, I wish you nothing but the best for the new year. Take care!

  7. I have yet to find a denim jacket that I love. Great idea on looking in the girls department though!

  8. Love the whole outfit! Looks fantastic! I have 2 denim jackets from White House Black Market. They have great feminine denim jackets from time to time that you won’t see other places (the WHBM outlet has them too occasionally and they are less expensive than the regular stores ) (size 00 would probably fit you)– I love mine—and splurged and wear them all the time… Happy New Year and best wishes for a great 2013!

  11. Hi there, thanks for sharing your thoughts on your denim jacket!
I currently own one from Necessary Clothing and I love the way it fits me. It’s nice and snug and comfy and it’s a versatile medium wash.
Before I found it, I was also tempted to buy the one you mentioned from American Eagle, but I also didn’t want to spend that much on denim. Sometimes when they have a sale, I believe it can be as much as 40% off, but I’m not certain.
I’ve loved denim jackets since I first got one from my aunt when I was about 4 or 5 years old, but sadly I lost it during recess, I think lol.
When I was a few years older, my parents bought me one from Old Navy in a women’s medium and they told me I’d grow into it, but I never did and I finally donated it a couple of years ago lol.
